Engineering Placement Sofia Wind Farm 12 months

Sofia Offshore Wind Farm is a 1.4GW development sited on the shallow central area of the North Sea known as Dogger Bank. It is the largest project in innogy SE’s current development portfolio. The consented project is being developed 195 km off the UK’s North East coast on a site of 593 square kilometres. It has an agreed connection point at an existing National Grid substation in Lackenby, Teesside.



Role description


  • The opportunity is for 12-month sandwich placement in the Sofia Offshore Windfarm Engineering Team, working in a large multidiscipline client project team to provide support on a range of design and engineering related tasks.
  • Exact area of work will depend on the area of study/interest of the selected student, it would either be focussed on cross discipline project engineering or electrical engineering and gain exposure to
    • Project Engineering and Design Management
    • Electrical and Cable Engineering
    • Wind Turbine and Offshore Platform Engineering
    • Structural, Civil and Geotechnical Engineering
  • The selected candidate will gain a good understanding of the design and construction of large infrastructure projects in general and offshore wind farms in particular


Required skills and experience


  • Studying for a honours degree or MEng in relevant engineering discipline (mechanical, structural or electrical based), must have completed at least 2 years of study and be expecting at least an upper 2nd
  • An interest in renewable energy and offshore engineering and construction
